The Field Organizer will play a critical role in building and executing the Dr. Raul Ruiz for Congress campaigns’ grassroots field operation across the district. The Field Organizer will work closely with the Campaign Manager and senior campaign staff to organize volunteers, engage voters, build strong community relationships, and execute an aggressive voter contact program leading up to Election Day.
The ideal candidate is an energetic, highly motivated self-starter who is passionate about organizing and Democratic politics. The right candidate will be comfortable working in the community, talking with voters, recruiting and managing volunteers, and working in a fast-paced campaign environment. Strong communication skills, reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to work flexible hours are essential.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Execute the campaign’s voter contact program, including door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, voter registration, and other direct voter engagement efforts.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to support canvassing, phone banking, voter registration, events, and Get Out the Vote (GOTV) activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with volunteers, community leaders, Democratic clubs, labor organizations, student groups, and other local partners.
- Conduct regular volunteer recruitment and follow-up to build a strong and reliable volunteer base.
- Organize and lead canvass launches, phone banks, volunteer shifts, and other grassroots organizing activities.
- Coordinate logistics for field activities, including staging locations, turf, walk lists, literature, clipboards, phones, and other campaign materials.
- Track daily and weekly voter contact, volunteer recruitment, volunteer participation, and other field metrics.
- Work with the Campaign Manager and senior staff to develop and adjust field plans based on campaign priorities, voter contact goals, and performance data.
- Attend community events, Democratic meetings, neighborhood gatherings, and other campaign activities to build relationships and increase voter engagement.
- Assist with campaign events and other activities as needed, including setup, volunteer coordination, voter outreach, and event follow-up.
- Travel throughout the district as needed to support campaign activities, as needed.
- Prepare regular field updates and reports for campaign leadership, including progress toward voter contact and volunteer goals.
- Work collaboratively with the entire campaign team to ensure field operations contribute to the campaign’s overall goals.
Requirements
- Strong commitment to Dr. Raul Ruiz’s campaign and Democratic values.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and grow with the team.
- Previous campaign, organizing, political, nonprofit, labor, or volunteer management experience is strongly preferred but not required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with voters, volunteers, community leaders, and campaign partners.
- Comfortable speaking with people from diverse backgrounds and engaging voters in one-on-one conversations.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a campaign team.
- Ability to recruit, motivate, train, and manage volunteers.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing campaign priorities.
- Comfortable working outdoors and walking for extended periods of time.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
- Experience with PDI is a plus.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a strong plus.
- Must have reliable transportation and willing to travel throughout the district as needed.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends, particularly during peak campaign periods.
- Ability to maintain discretion when handling confidential campaign information.
