Purchasing Manager
Location: Moline, IL
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm
Duration: 9-month contract-to-hire
Travel: Up to 10%
We're looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead procurement activities, strengthen supplier relationships and help improve cost, inventory and supply chain performance.
This position is ideal for someone who has managed purchasing within a manufacturing environment and enjoys supplier negotiations, strategic sourcing and finding ways to improve cost and material availability.
Responsibilities:
- Lead purchasing and procurement activities for materials, components and services
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers
- Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, contracts and purchasing terms
- Identify cost-reduction and supply chain improvement opportunities
- Manage purchase orders, inventory levels and material availability
- Support production schedules and project timelines through effective planning and sourcing
- Review purchasing data, supplier performance, spending and cost metrics
- Assist with forecasting, budgeting and inventory planning
- Evaluate new suppliers and help develop existing suppliers
- Address supplier quality, delivery and performance concerns
- Support global sourcing and strategic category initiatives as needed
- Travel up to 10% for supplier visits and meetings
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management or a related field
- At least five years of procurement or purchasing management experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong experience with supplier relationships and contract negotiations
- Knowledge of purchasing processes, inventory management and supply chain best practices
- Experience using an ERP or procurement system
- Strong analytical, cost-management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret purchasing, inventory and supplier-performance data
- Willingness to travel up to 10%
Preferred Experience:
- SAP, NetSuite or a similar ERP system
- Global sourcing or international supplier management
- Welding automation, robotics, industrial equipment or capital equipment manufacturing
- Supplier quality management and supplier development
- ISO 9001, ISO 13849 or other manufacturing quality standards
- Commodity or strategic category management
- Cost-reduction initiatives and value engineering
- Lean, Six Sigma or project management
- APICS CSCP, CPIM or a similar supply chain certification
