Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. Responsibilities
- Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including bracket placement, adjustments, and appliance fittings, ensuring precision and efficiency.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and equipment, maintaining a sterile and organized environment following infection control protocols.
- Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging technology, including 3D scanners when applicable, while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage patient records accurately within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, documenting treatment details and medical histories thoroughly.
- Provide patient education on orthodontic care, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored to pediatric dentistry needs.
- Support the dental reception team by scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and verifying insurance information.
- Maintain infection control standards through aseptic techniques and proper sterilization of instruments in compliance with OSHA guidelines.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a dental assistant with a focus on orthodontics or general dentistry; familiarity with pediatric dentistry is a plus.
- Proficiency in dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding for accurate documentation and billing processes.
- Knowledge of EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with Epic or similar platforms is advantageous.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting using four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize workflow efficiency.
- Skilled in taking X-rays (including panoramic and cephalometric), vital signs monitoring, and basic medical imaging procedures.
- Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic technique, anatomy knowledge, and dental assisting procedures.
- Excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist; capable of explaining procedures clearly to pediatric patients and their families.
- Certification in CPR/BLS preferred; additional certifications in endodontics or prosthodontics are beneficial.
