Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician
Location: Neptune, NJ 07754
Schedule: 5×8-hour shifts, Evening (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM) (40 hours/week), EOW required if needed
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to support the safe cleaning, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and reusable medical equipment. This role is responsible for maintaining sterilization standards, preparing case carts for surgical procedures, and ensuring compliance with infection control and safety protocols in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 5+ years of sterile processing or instrument processing experience required.
- Completion of a Central Processing course or equivalent sterile processing experience.
- National certification required: CRCST or CBSPD.
- Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterilization techniques, detergents, disinfectants, and infection control practices.
- Experience operating Steam, ETO, Sterrad, and Steris sterilization systems.
- Ability to accurately maintain sterilization documentation and computerized instrument tracking systems.
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 60 lbs, and standing for extended periods.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and rotating shifts as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and reusable medical equipment.
- Operate and monitor sterilization equipment, including Steam, ETO, Sterrad, and Steris systems.
- Perform and document biological and Bowie-Dick testing to ensure sterilization quality.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records and computerized instrument count documentation.
- Prepare and assemble case carts according to surgical preference cards.
- Coordinate with clinical staff regarding missing instruments or supply shortages.
- Follow infection prevention standards, Universal Precautions, and proper PPE guidelines.
- Assist with inventory management and maintain an organized sterile processing department.
- Safely lift, push, pull, and transport equipment and supplies as required.
