Job Description
Job Title: Custodian
Department: Department of Public Works
Reports To: Operations Manager/ Director of Operations
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Education: High school diploma or GED preferred
Experience: Prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred; training provided
Work Schedule: 11 am - 7 pm, Summer: Wednesday - Sunday, Offseason: Monday - Friday
Position Summary:
The Custodian is responsible for ensuring ALCA facilities, buildings, and grounds are clean, safe, and well‑maintained. This position supports daily operations by performing cleaning, sanitation, equipment care, and routine monitoring of assigned areas. The Custodian contributes to a positive community environment by maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety for members, guests, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:

Monitor buildings to ensure a clean, neat, and hazard‑free environment. *

Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, polishing floors, vacuuming carpets, and maintaining tile and common areas. *

Clean and sanitize restrooms and bath houses including toilets, sinks, showers, floors, and restock supplies as needed. *

Remove trash from offices, restrooms, common areas, and outdoor receptacles and dispose of waste in designated areas. *

Salt and maintain exterior walkways during winter or inclement weather to promote safety. *

Follow all written and verbal instructions provided by the supervisor and maintain quality standards. *

Store and maintain cleaning tools and supplies; ensure custodial equipment remains in good working condition. *

Follow procedures for securing and locking buildings and report any safety or security concerns to management. *

Report repair needs, maintenance issues, or facility hazards to the supervisor promptly. *

Report emergency maintenance problems or environmental hazards immediately. *

Follow all ALCA policies and safety procedures with special attention to proper chemical handling and personal protective equipment. *

Complete daily logs, checklists, and activity reports and submit them at the end of each shift. *

Maintain a professional appearance and uphold positive communication with members, coworkers, and visitors. *

Perform additional related duties as assigned. *
