Position Summary
The Irrigation Service Technician is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, installation, and maintenance of irrigation systems across commercial and residential properties. This role ensures irrigation systems operate efficiently, promote water conservation, and support overall landscape health. The Technician works independently or alongside field teams while upholding company standards for safety, quality workmanship, professionalism, and customer service.
Essential Job Function
Irrigation System Diagnostics & Repair
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair irrigation system components including valves, controllers, wiring, sprinkler heads, nozzles, sensors, backflow devices, and piping.
- Troubleshoot both conventional and 2-wire irrigation systems.
- Identify leaks, pressure issues, electrical faults, coverage deficiencies, and system inefficiencies.
- Adjust sprinkler heads, arc settings, nozzle selection, and controller programming to optimize performance and water efficiency.
- Perform seasonal system start-ups, winterizations, audits, and controller reprogramming.
- Test all system functions following service to ensure proper operation and coverage.
- Accurately document work performed, materials used, and system conditions.
Installation & System Enhancements
- Assist with or lead irrigation installations including layout, trenching, pipe installation, wiring, and controller setup.
- Install smart controllers, rain sensors, flow sensors, pressure-regulating devices, and other water-efficient technologies.
- Ensure proper zoning, hydraulic balance, and head-to-head coverage standards.
- Verify compliance with local codes, backflow regulations, and water conservation requirements.
Customer Service & Communication
- Communicate system issues, repair recommendations, and enhancement opportunities clearly and professionally.
- Provide accurate repair estimates and solution-based recommendations.
- Build and maintain positive client relationships through reliability and high-quality service.
- Represent the company professionally at all job sites.
Safety, Equipment & Vehicle Management
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Safely operate trenchers, pipe pullers, wire locators, multimeters, and other irrigation tools and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked service vehicle.
- Report damaged tools, vehicle issues, or safety concerns promptly.
Qualifications
Required
- Proven experience diagnosing and repairing irrigation systems.
- Working knowledge of conventional and 2-wire irrigation systems.
- Basic understanding of low-voltage electrical troubleshooting.
- Ability to read irrigation plans and wiring diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical labor including digging, kneeling, and trenching.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Irrigation license or certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must have experience with commercial irrigation systems and smart controller technology, including setting up and adjusting a variety of irrigation controllers.”, including the ability to set up and adjust all types of irrigation controllers.”
- Background in landscaping, irrigation installation, or facilities maintenance.

- Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required during peak irrigation seasons.
Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
