COMPANY SUMMARY
Stucky-Vitale Architects (SVA) is a full-service architectural firm based in Royal Oak, Michigan, with over 60 years of service to the Detroit metropolitan region and beyond. SVA specializes in healthcare, institutional, and commercial architecture and interior design, offering clients an unusual breadth of capability for a firm of its size — including NCARB multi-state professionals and project delivery, integrated interior design, and a nationwide healthcare design portfolio.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Electrical Engineer will help grow the firm’s internal engineering capability, along with collaborating with external consultants, where applicable, and mechanical teams. This individual is a licensed Professional Engineer who will design and produce stamped electrical construction documents across SVA’s healthcare, institutional, and commercial portfolio, coordinate electrical scope within the firm’s BIM environment, and serve as the firm’s internal electrical authority from early design through construction administration. The Electrical Engineer works in tandem with SVA’s Mechanical Engineer to provide complete in-house building systems coverage. In addition to power and lighting design, this role includes coordination of fire alarm, low-voltage, AV/telecom, and security systems. Healthcare project experience is a plus; the ability to work independently as the sole in-house electrical engineer is essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and produce stamped electrical construction documents on assigned SVA projects across all project phases, including power distribution, lighting, emergency/standby power, and grounding systems
- Perform electrical load calculations; size and specify service entrance equipment, switchgear, panelboards, transformers, and distribution systems appropriate to project type and occupancy
- Design interior and exterior lighting systems including fixture selection, photometric analysis, lighting controls, and daylighting integration; ensure compliance with applicable energy codes
- Design emergency and standby power systems including generator sizing, automatic transfer switches, and essential electrical systems for healthcare and institutional occupancies
- Coordinate fire alarm system scope with licensed fire alarm contractors and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ); produce fire alarm riser diagrams and device layouts for contractor design-build packages where applicable
- Coordinate low-voltage systems including structured cabling, AV/telecom, access control, and security/CCTV with licensed specialty contractors; produce system riser diagrams and infrastructure requirements
- Coordinate electrical scope within the project BIM model; participate in multi-discipline coordination meetings and resolve conflicts with architectural, mechanical, structural, and civil teams
- Coordinate with the Mechanical Engineer on equipment power requirements, controls wiring, and building automation system (BAS) integration
- Prepare electrical specifications across applicable MasterFormat divisions; review shop drawings and submittals during construction administration
- Conduct site visits during construction to observe electrical installations, respond to RFIs, and confirm conformance with construction documents
- Support business development by contributing to proposals and client presentations where in-house engineering capability is a differentiator
- Establish electrical standards, typical details, and specifications libraries for the firm as the engineering practice is built out
