Definition:
Under direction, is responsible for planning and coordinating the training of Columbus City Schools safety and security personnel, administrators, employees, and students in the proper methods of security to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors; performs related duties as required.

· O rganizes in-service training of school Safety and Security Specialists, as needed;
· Coordinates and develops curriculum for various safety training sessions;
· Coordinates safety training of District employees;
· Operates audiovisual equipment as a part of various training programs;
· Promotes the School Safety Plans mandated by the Ohio Department of Education and Homeland Security, including distribution of information and materials;
· Develops classroom materials for use at the Safety and Security Specialists’ annual and other inservice sessions;
· Conducts safety instruction programs for primary schools;
· Establishes and maintains appropriate records, reports, rosters, listings, etc., as needed, to implement training programs;
· Conducts Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training;
· Assists with recruiting Safety and Security Specialist candidates;
· Assists with retraining Safety and Security Specialists to meet re-certification requirements;
· May provide presentations on school safety and security to parent groups, at teacher in-service days, and other school or community functions.
Department Requirement:
Create and facilitate new hire training
Must maintain a valid driver's license
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a bachelor's degree and four (4) years of safety and security related experience. Substitution: Additional years of safety and security experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
****Examples of law enforcement include local, state or government law enforcement agencies; correction or probation agencies; some security agencies may be accepted depending upon agency and duties.
Must attach official college transcript or degree for educational credit before submitting the application. 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours = 1 academic year
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities::
Thorough knowledge of pupil safety and security laws and procedures; considerable knowledge of National Incident Management System procedures and policies as they apply to public and private school systems; thorough knowledge of bus safety procedures; thorough knowledge of proper methods and procedures of test development and administration; considerable knowledge of Columbus City Schools policies regarding student behavior; ability to present information in classroom settings at a level appropriate to the audience; ability to develop classroom course curriculum appropriate to the age group; ability to coordinate the work of others; ability to operate a motor vehicle; ability to operate a computer and related software; ability to interact well with others; ability to establish and maintain accurate records and reports; ability to select alternative courses of action in stressful situations; ability to assess safety and security needs of schools; ability to communicate orally and in writing.
