Position Summary
American Anthracite is seeking a highly vigilant and dependable Haul Truck Operator to join our production team.
In this role, you will be responsible for operating heavy, off-road haulage and dump trucks with capacities exceeding 50 tons. Your primary duty will be the safe, efficient transport of bulk materials—including run-of-mine coal, dirt, rock, spoil, and overburden—across active strip mining terrain between loading zones, processing plants, and stockpile areas. Because this role operates within a high-volume production environment, a sharp focus on haul road safety, equipment care, and consistent cycle-time execution is critical.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maneuvering & Transport: Safe operation of large-scale, off-road dump trucks to haul bulk materials across variable terrain, steep grades, and active mining pits.
- Pre/Post-Shift Inspections: Conduct comprehensive daily equipment walkthroughs, checking fluid levels (gas, oil, water), tire conditions, air pressures, high-wear structural areas, and safety systems (brakes, backup alarms, fire suppressors).
- Loading & Dumping Coordination: Back up cleanly under shovels and excavators for loading, monitor loader scales, and safely navigate dump edges, stockpiles, or hoppers to discharge bulk materials under spotter or supervisor direction.
- Routine Maintenance & Field Care: Perform standard field servicing such as fueling, greasing, and clearing heavy mud or debris build-up from step wells, mirrors, and sideframes. Assist mechanics with emergency roadside or field repairs on an "as-needed" basis.
- Regulatory Compliance & Tracking: Maintain accurate haulage logs, record load/cycle counts as requested by management, and ensure full adherence to state, federal, and MSHA safety standards.
- Communications: Maintain constant radio contact with pit foremen, excavator operators, and plant dispatch to receive immediate routing changes and weather updates.
- Hazard Awareness: Actively report any deteriorating haul road conditions, high-wall shifts, or mechanical anomalies immediately to the supervisor.
Position Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years operating heavy mobile equipment, ideally off-road haul trucks, articulated dump trucks, or related heavy machinery in a mining, quarry, or major civil earthmoving environment.
- Core Skills: Exceptional spatial awareness, ability to read grade markers or hand signals, and experience operating heavy equipment braking systems on downward slopes.
- Schedule Alignment: Must be fully prepared to work assigned operational production shifts, which may include days, nights, and weekends based on company needs.
- Licensing: A valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License is required.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Physical Capabilities: The position requires sitting for extended periods inside an unsprung or heavy industrial cab, subject to constant whole-body vibration. Must have excellent peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to climb vertical equipment ladders to access the cab safely. Occasional manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds during field servicing, is required.
- Environment: Out in the field across all weather conditions (extreme heat, snow, rain, ice). Exposure to loud industrial noise, airborne dust, particulates, and slick or steep haul road surfaces is normal. Strict personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance is mandatory at all times.
