Pharmacy Technician (Part-Time → Full-Time Opportunity)Position Summary
We are an independent community pharmacy seeking a reliable and customer-focused Pharmacy Technician to join our team. This role supports the pharmacist in delivering high-quality patient care, processing prescriptions, and maintaining efficient daily operations.
This is a part-time position with the potential to transition into full-time based on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Prescription Processing
- Enter prescription and patient information accurately into the pharmacy system
- Assist in filling prescriptions, including counting, labeling, and packaging medications
- Prepare medications under the direct supervision of the pharmacist
- Identify and communicate any discrepancies or concerns to the pharmacist
Customer Service
- Provide friendly, personalized service to patients at drop-off and pick-up
- Answer phones and assist with general pharmacy inquiries
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding prescriptions and insurance issues
- Build strong relationships with regular patients and the local community
Insurance & Billing
- Process prescription claims through third-party insurance providers
- Troubleshoot claim rejections and coordinate with insurance companies when needed
- Collect copayments and handle transactions accurately
Inventory & Operations
- Assist with ordering, stocking, and maintaining inventory
- Monitor for expired medications and ensure proper storage conditions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy workspace
- Support workflow to ensure timely prescription processing
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to all federal and Pennsylvania state pharmacy laws and regulations
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
- Follow all policies related to controlled substances and medication safety
Required Qualifications (Pennsylvania-Specific)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Active registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy (or eligibility to obtain upon hire)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic math and computer proficiency
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work flexible part-time hours (including some evenings or weekends if needed)
Preferred Qualifications
- National certification (PTCB or ExCPT)
- Previous experience in a retail or independent pharmacy setting
- Familiarity with pharmacy management systems and insurance billing
- Strong multitasking ability in a fast-paced environment
