Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit dental insurance claims using billing software and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, ensuring compliance with coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group).
- Review patient records to verify medical coding accuracy, including ICD coding and medical terminology, to facilitate precise billing.
- Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims by communicating with insurance companies to resolve discrepancies and expedite payments.
- Maintain detailed records of medical billing activities, including documentation of payments, adjustments, and collections.
- Collaborate with dental practitioners and administrative staff to ensure all procedures are accurately coded and documented in the system.
- Manage medical collections by contacting patients regarding outstanding balances while providing excellent customer service.
- Stay updated on healthcare claims management policies, health insurance regulations, and changes in medical coding standards to ensure compliance.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing within a dental or healthcare setting; familiarity with dental-specific billing practices is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical coding systems such as CPT, ICD-9/10, ICD coding, DRG classifications, and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) as well as billing software and EMR/EHR systems used in healthcare environments.
- Understanding of health insurance processes, healthcare claims management, and medical records handling.
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all billing activities.
- Exceptional customer service skills to effectively communicate with patients and insurance representatives.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new software platforms and stay current with industry regulations related to medical coding and billing.
