Duties
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using billing software, EMR (Electronic Medical Records), and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
- Review medical records to verify diagnosis codes (ICD-9, ICD-10) and procedure codes (CPT coding) align with services provided
- Utilize DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications to support appropriate billing and reimbursement processes
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies and healthcare claims management
- Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, patient interactions, and claim statuses in compliance with healthcare regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure proper coding of medical records and treatment plans
- Stay updated on changes in health insurance policies, medical terminology, and coding standards to ensure ongoing compliance and accuracy
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing within a behavioral health or mental health setting is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG classifications, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with billing software, EMR/EHR systems, and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting purposes
- Understanding of health insurance processes, including claims submission, adjudication, appeals, and collections
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with patients, providers, and insurance representatives
- Attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple claims efficiently
- Prior experience working with medical records and medical coding is a significant advantage
