This Excess Liability Division provides large-limit liability solutions designed to protect corporate assets from catastrophic loss, offering large-limit capacity for both Lead Umbrella and Excess Liability placements across a diverse portfolio of industries and businesses.
This role underwrites Lead Umbrella and Excess Liability accounts across manufacturing, contracting, retail services, and distribution, supporting a nationwide producer base and targeting Middle Market through National commercial accounts. The position balances disciplined underwriting with strong production and relationship management, working on-site four days a week with flexibility to work one day remotely.

Compensation
$140,000 to $150,000 per year.
What You'll Do
This role leads the underwriting of new and renewal Excess and Umbrella business in alignment with company guidelines, risk appetite, and profitability goals, analyzing complex risk exposures to determine appropriate coverage, pricing, structure, and terms. The position evaluates and manages complex renewals, endorsements, and policy modifications, identifying opportunities for coverage enhancements and risk mitigation, and procures and assesses supplemental underwriting information including loss histories, Safer SMS reports, external inspections, and other third party data, while ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
The role builds and maintains strong partnerships with agents, brokers, claims, and internal stakeholders to support informed underwriting decisions and long term account success, clearly communicating underwriting strategies and risk considerations to internal teams and external partners. It also actively promotes Excess and Umbrella products to drive profitable growth, leads and participates in marketing initiatives including broker and agent meetings, presentations, and industry events, and analyzes market conditions, competitive trends, and regulatory developments to identify strategic opportunities and recommend product or marketing enhancements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 6 to 10 years of casualty underwriting experience
- Prior Excess Liability and Commercial Umbrella underwriting experience
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship building skills with the ability to market products and services effectively
- Willingness to travel, including overnight travel, more than 10% and less than 50% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
- Progress toward or completion of a professional insurance designation (such as CPCU or ARM)
