Martin's House Shelter Manager (Onsite/Day Shift)
Salary: $48,000-$52,000 DOE + Generous Benefits

Martin’s House & Barn is seeking a compassionate and organized Shelter Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our shelter program serving families experiencing homelessness. This leadership position plays a vital role in creating a safe, respectful, trauma-informed, and supportive environment for both guests and staff.
The Shelter Manager will supervise frontline shelter staff and case management staff while ensuring smooth daily operations, strong communication, accountability, and consistency across shifts and programs. Responsibilities include staff scheduling and support, guest engagement, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, shelter safety, operational oversight, incident reporting, inventory coordination, and helping maintain a safe and calm shelter environment.
Key Responsibilities, including, but not limited to:
- Oversee daily shelter operations and staff coordination
- Supervise shelter and case management/housing search staff
- Respond to crises, guest concerns, and behavioral incidents using trauma-informed de-escalation techniques
- Ensure completion of shelter documentation and HMIS, incident reports, and communication logs
- Participate in alternating weekly on-call responsibilities and emergency response support
- Provide after-hours guidance and decision-making support during alternating on-call weeks
- Foster a respectful, structured, and healing-centered shelter environment
- Provide staff coaching, training, and meeting facilitation
- Collaborate with case management staff and community partners
Qualifications & Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in shelter operations, homelessness services, behavioral health, human services, housing programs, or related field preferred
- 2-4 years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Experience with trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and conflict resolution
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively and compassionately with individuals from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Excellent computer and documentation skills required
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, or related field required. MSW highly desirable
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Ability to pass required fingerprinting and background checks
- Alternating weekly on-call availability, as well as occasional early evening and weekend hours
