Job Summary
763Industries is seeking a passionate and motivated Programmer in Training to join our indie game development team in an unpaid volunteer training role. This opportunity is designed for individuals who want to gain real-world software development experience while contributing to active game development projects.
As a Programmer in Training, you will work alongside experienced developers, learn industry-standard tools and workflows, and contribute to projects ranging from gameplay systems and tools to user interfaces and backend features. This role is intended to provide hands-on experience, mentorship, portfolio-building opportunities, and exposure to the full game development lifecycle.
This is not an employment position and no wages or compensation are provided. Participation is entirely voluntary and intended for educational and professional development purposes.
Responsibilities
Learn and assist with programming tasks under the guidance of senior developers.
Contribute to gameplay features, tools, utilities, and game systems for current and future 763Industries projects.
Assist with debugging, testing, and resolving software issues.
Learn and use version control systems such as Git and GitHub.
Participate in code reviews and receive constructive feedback to improve programming skills.
Work collaboratively with designers, artists, and other programmers.
Assist in developing internal tools and utilities that improve development workflows.
Follow established coding standards and best practices.
Attend team meetings and participate in project planning when available.
Continue learning new programming concepts, development tools, and game development techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
No professional experience is required.
Ideal candidates may have:
A basic understanding of programming concepts.
Experience with or an interest in C#, C++, Python, GameMaker Language (GML), or similar programming languages.
Familiarity with Git or GitHub (or a willingness to learn).
Interest in game development and software engineering.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
A willingness to learn from feedback and improve over time.
Ability to work independently while collaborating remotely with a development team.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
