Youth Focus:

Older Adult Focus:
July 1-10; M-F; 9-1 or 11-3
July 13-31; T, W, Th; 9-1 or 11-3

In support of the mission of Greater Cleveland Neighborhood Centers Association (NCA), the AmeriCorps Community Education Specialist will develop and lead quality after school enrichment and summer programs in Cleveland, Ohio that support educational opportunities, positive social interactions, and outreach for K-12 students and their families The position provides a hands-on experience working with students, teachers, families, and fellow AmeriCorps Volunteers serving in a cohort of emerging leaders who focus on developing professional and interpersonal skills while exploring the fields of education, youth development, and STREAM within the context of a large urban school system.
Duties
P4SS - Youth Focus
- Provide targeted support to youth by intentionally engaging students in out-of-school time programing, including service learning, summer learning and family involvement (limited).
- Develop professional relationships with students, staff and other AmeriCorps Volunteers to coordinate programming aimed to improve attendance, student engagement, and/or work completion.
- Assist students with their individual academic and social emotional development needs.
- Maintain accurate records related to each student to adhere to the AmeriCorps grant.
- Assist with admin for participant projects and documentation.
- Learn about teacher/parent surveys and how they impact programing and measure objectives.
- Conduct outreach to enhance P4SS program enrollment.
IConnect - Older Adult Focus
- Provide targeted support to older adults by intentionally engaging and making connections to programs in the areas of Wellness, Creativity, Lifelong Learning and Community Building.
- Build strong relationships that support creative and healthy aging.
- Conduct outreach to enhance IConnect program enrollment.
- Assist older adults with basic and/or mid-level computer skills training such as Email basics (sending attachments, etc.), word processing, Internet, social media, uploading photos, downloading music.
Youth and Older Adult Focus
- Attend required initial trainings as well as training sessions throughout the summer cohort.
- Collaborate with Summer Corps members to create two activities for intergenerational programing.
- Comply with all AmeriCorps program guidelines by maintaining service hours, training hours, and service projects as outlined in the AmeriCorps Service Agreement.
- Interact in a positive, professional, and cooperative manner with families, participants, fellow cohort members and staff; refer appropriate questions or concerns to AmeriCorps Program Director.
- Willingness and ability to be cross trained and fill in where directed. This includes but is not limited to substituting at other after school sites that may differ from original assignment or serving with older adults in the IConnect program.
- Maintain clear, positive communication with AmeriCorps program staff and administration and staff at host site to ensure smooth operation of programs and conduct parent communication in a caring and positive manner.
- Complete all reporting on service experience assigned by AmeriCorps Project Director.
- Complete 10 to 20 hours of training, as assigned by AmeriCorps project Director.
- Support communication and outreach efforts through social media, website updates, and participate in program Discord.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- Have a high school diploma or G.E.D; College degree or some college experience, or significant life and work experience preferred.
- Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office software.
- Knowledge of Internet searching and be able to teach others.
- Positive and professional written and oral communication skills.
- Reliable transportation. Position requires travel to different sites.
- Submit to a full background check, including a sex offender registry check, FBI fingerprint-based check, and a State check if residency is outside of Ohio at time of application. This position has recurring access to vulnerable populations and selection is contingent upon satisfactory results of these checks.

Pay: $1,200.00 per month
