Job Duties:
In support of The Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), the Data Scientist supports high-visibility United States Government programs for the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) and United States Nuclear Detonation Detection System (USNDS). The employee serves as a technical expert responsible for identifying, acquiring, integrating, validating, and analyzing mission-relevant data from government, commercial, open-source, and scientific sources to support Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), mission operations, systems engineering activities, and technical decision-making. The Data Scientist develops and maintains automated data collection and processing pipelines using APIs, databases, web services, and other data acquisition methods. The employee utilizes data science tools and programming languages such as Python, Pandas, NumPy, R, and SQL to transform raw data into actionable information products that support system integration, testing, mission analysis, and operational readiness. The Data Scientist maintains positive relationships with government personnel, prime contractors, and stakeholders while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity, data governance, and security requirements. The employee will perform a variety of duties inducing:
- Identify, evaluate, and acquire mission-relevant data from APIs, web services, databases, government systems, commercial providers, and open-source sources.
- Develop, maintain, and automate data ingestion, transformation, and validation pipelines supporting USNDS mission requirements.
- Collect, normalize, standardize, and document structured and unstructured data from disparate sources.
- Monitor data quality, completeness, timeliness, and integrity across multiple data feeds and repositories.
- Create and maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and data source documentation.
- Troubleshoot data collection, integration, and quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Work directly with SMEs to identify new data requirements and develop technical solutions to meet mission needs.
- Utilize Python, Pandas, NumPy, R, SQL, and similar technologies for data manipulation, analysis, and visualization.
- Apply data science techniques to analyze and interpret complex datasets, supporting mission-critical decision-making.
- Develop analytical tools, dashboards, reports, and visualizations that provide actionable insights to mission stakeholders.
- Apply statistical, predictive, and exploratory data analysis techniques to identify trends, anomalies, and operational impacts.
Required Knowledge/Skills:
- Proficiency in Python/Pandas/Numpy/R (or similar), data manipulation, and data science techniques.
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80 percent of the work time. This work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain.
- Ability to sit at a desk and work with documents and/or a computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to solve problems and analyze issues.
- Effective interpersonal skills, including communicating in person, by e-mail, and by telephone with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to follow instructions effectively from InSPIRE management and customer representatives.
- Ability to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
- Ability to work non-standard hours, including occasionally working evenings, weekends and holidays, as necessary to meet the needs of InSPIRE and its clients.
- Competently operate standard office equipment, such as computers, photocopiers, and fax machines.
- Ability to travel to private and public buildings, locally, statewide, or nationally, via private or public conveyance.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at a level adequate to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, subordinates, and outside vendors.
- Ability to exercise appropriate interpersonal skills necessary to coordinate business and manage different personalities.
Qualifications:
- US Citizens Only
- TS/SCI Clearance and Polygraph required
- Technical Degree
Minimum Required Skill Level of:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field.
- Minimum of four (4) years relevant experience.
- Active TS/SCI Security Clearance
- Working knowledge of and experience with derivative classification procedures in environments up to Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information.
