About the Role
Most estimating roles begin once someone else has decided what the system will be. This one doesn't. At Osbee, the Project Engineer & Estimator helps define the scope, works out what the design actually requires, and resolves the open questions that stand between a set of drawings and a proposal a client can act on.
Osbee is a leading residential AV and integration technology company working on some of the most demanding luxury projects in the tri-state area. The systems are complex, the documentation standards are high, and the estimate you produce is what the project team builds from.
Pay: $90,000–$120,000/year, commensurate with experience. Full-time, salaried, with a company vehicle, laptop, and cellphone provided.
What You'll Do
- Develop project scope in collaboration with project managers, sales team, engineers, and leadership, rather than waiting for a finished scope to be handed over
- Perform on-site surveys and review architectural, electrical, and consultant drawings to establish design requirements
- Design systems including lighting control, shades, audio, video, networking, Wi-Fi, surveillance, access control, intercom, and climate integration to Osbee's standards for reliability, serviceability, and performance
- Prepare complete estimates covering equipment, labor, engineering, programming, project management, documentation, commissioning, and service
- Verify quantities, model numbers, accessories, licensing, mounting hardware, power, cabling, and rack requirements for completeness and compatibility
- Account for dealer costs, discounts, freight, tariffs, taxes, and lead times, and coordinate specialized pricing with vendors and subcontractors
- Produce Osbee-formatted proposals that clearly separate included work, allowances, alternates, exclusions, and work performed by others
- Create and edit CAD drawings, equipment plans, and rack elevations
- Identify missing or conflicting information, prepare organized RFIs, and escalate items that create financial, scheduling, or technical risk
- Help develop estimating standards, templates, labor models, and design guidelines, and mentor developing team members
What We're Looking For
- Four or more years of experience designing and estimating integrated residential low-voltage technology projects built on home control systems such as Crestron, Lutron, Savant, or Control4, and all related home automation hardware
- Ability to interpret architectural, electrical, lighting, millwork, and consultant drawings
- Working knowledge of audio, video, networking, lighting control, shades, surveillance, access control, and climate integration
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- A deep interest in integration technology and a passion for learning new systems
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong mathematical, organizational, and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple proposals and competing deadlines, and to work with a team to solve problems and get the job done
- Good communication skills, with the ability to interface with clients, contractors, and Osbee project and service managers
- Degree or formal training in audio/video, information technology, electrical, or engineering technology, or equivalent practical experience
- Comfortable visiting active construction sites
- A valid U.S. driver's license
