The Lakeway Swim Center is hiring an experienced, enthusiastic, part-time Swim School Coach to teach children ages 5 - 14 in a fun and safe environment. Shifts will be Tuesday through Thursday from 4pm-7pm.

GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Assistant Swim Center Manager, provides swim coaching for ages 5-14 based on swim school standards and program requirements.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Assistant Swim Center Manager
Supervises: None
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Swim School Coach is responsible for instructing all swim school participants.
- This position is also responsible for the safety of the participant’s in their own class.
- Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and to clean up supplies.
- Instructs and evaluates students participating in the swim school.
- Submits completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time.
- Attends mandatory meetings and training sessions, as scheduled.
- Respond to requests, inquiries, and complaints in a cooperative manner that ensures customer satisfaction and provides excellent community relations.
- Notify the Swim Center Manager on duty of patron misconduct.
- Report any staff on-the-job injury or patron injury to the Swim Center Manager on duty and or Human Resources.
- Retain by memory details of the Emergency Action Plan and implement it during emergency situations.
- Exercise proper, calm judgment when dealing with situations that require immediate action.
- Exercise consistency in following and implementing Swim Center and City policies.
- Consistently provide excellent public relations and customer service.
- Be outgoing and enthusiastic in promoting safety and pool programs.
- Meet multiple deadlines and perform multiple tasks under pressure. Work in a multi-task environment.
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an
emergency.
Maintenance
- Notify the Swim Center Manager on duty of any needed materials, equipment repairs, and any unsafe conditions.
Other Essential Job Functions
- Convey a positive professional image by action, communication and appearance.
- Exhibit regular, reliable and punctual attendance, which is an essential function of the job.
- Is expected to teach and lead swim school program, after receiving proper training.
- Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Previous swim coaching experience of at least two years preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of swim skills or previous swim team/coaching experience.
- Previous experience working with children in a swim lesson or swim team setting.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Complete Swim Instructor Training through the StarFish Aquatics Institute.
- Complete StarGuard Elite lifeguard certification.
- Complete Safe Sport Certification.
- Age must comply with City’s Policies and Personnel guidelines (minimum age is 18.)
- High school diploma or GED required, or current student status.
- Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to swim proficiently and teach all skill levels within the swim school program.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently use all swim school equipment.
- Ability to manage emergency situations using good judgment to determine proper response.
- Ability to retain and effectively utilize the Emergency Action Plan, safety rules, department and City policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Ability to respond effectively to a stressful or high-pressure environment and handle emergency and non-emergency communication in a calm manner.
- Ability to handle emergency situations and use good judgment in determining proper response.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to effectively speak, read and write in the English language.
- Ability to present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and ability to maintain a high standard of customer service.
- All other duties as assigned and appropriate.
WORKING CONDITIONS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to work in extreme temperatures for long hours including weekends, holidays and some after hours. Subject to sunburn, and other sun exposure reactions.
- May be exposed to potential injury from patrons in water emergencies.
- May require exposure to human body fluids.
- Must wear a swim coach uniform.
- May be exposed to dust, cleaning agents, materials and equipment.
- Work requires exposure to pool chemicals and pool equipment.
- May encounter occasional stressful situations.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Lift equipment and a small to average-size child.
- Remain in the pool area at all times.
- Remain alert, with no lapses of consciousness, in a warm or cold environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher or 60 degrees or colder.
- Recognize distress signals.
- Support child or adult body weight in the water.
- Remain in water ranging from 80–95 degrees for one to four hours.
- Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance, in normal and loud situation.
