JOB DESCRIPTION:
Full-Time On-Site Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) — Sign Language Interpreting, Transliteration, and Sight Translation Services.
Contract Period: The Period of Performance from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2027.
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM EST, excluding Federal Holidays, Base Closures, and OPM Closures. One 30-minute lunch break is permitted between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, scheduled around interpreting requirements.
Job Overview / Description:
Provide full-time, on-site, desk-side and in-person sign language interpreting support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Deaf/HoH) employees. Services may include ASL interpreting, transliteration, and/or sight translation, depending on the needs.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Provide sign language interpretation, transliteration, and sight translation services.
- Provide sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation.
- Support both in-person and virtual meetings.
- Provide communication and cultural mediation between employees.
- Voice interpret when a Deaf/HoH person's speech is difficult to understand.
- Convey nuance, tone, inflection, and overall meaning of messages.
- Keep pace with normal conversation in all contexts.
- Work in laboratory environments when required and use necessary PPE.
- Notify the government POC of lateness and provide ETA.
- Provide an alternate qualified interpreter when the assigned interpreter is unavailable.
Experience Requirement:
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in ASL interpretation.
- The interpreter must also be fluent in ASL and possess the ability to handle normal conversation and communicate nuances, tone, inflection, and the spirit of the message.
Certification Requirement:
- A current, valid interpreter certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) is required.
- The interpreter must also uphold the RID Code of Professional Conduct (CPC)
- Tier 3 Personnel Security Investigation (PSI) eligibility
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be authorized to access Carderock Division facilities.
- Must obtain/maintain a CAC card for base and network access.
- Linguistic expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
- Proficiency in sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign.
Pay: $28.61 - $34.46 per hour
