The Facilities Construction Inspector II makes inspections on aspects of facility construction projects including civil, mechanical, and electrical construction. The Facilities Construction Inspector II also performs contract administration related duties and assists in the coordination of the contract management team responsibilities.
Essential Functions
Studies and reviews contract documents of proposed assignment, discussing same with their immediate supervisor
Inspects taps, grading, and alignment of pipelines
Inspects excavations, trenches, drainage, and paving
Inspects all contract required work for conformance to approved plans, specifications, and contractor submittals
Observes soil, concrete, structural and reinforcing steel, and other required quality control field tests/measures
Ensures that required WSSC Water safety precautions are taken
Maintains logs for contractor’s submittals and correspondence
Assists the project manager in execution of the submittal review process and general administration responsibilities
Maintains accurate logs of work performed and prepares daily inspection reports and other reports as required
Verifies work completed for contractor payment
Maintains a record of construction changes on a set of field documents
Advises contractors immediately of any deviation from the provision of the contract
Performs liaison duties with public agencies and contractors
Assists the project manager in testing, final inspection, and preparation of punch lists
Monitors contractors’ performance against approved CPM schedule
Assists in the coordination of the construction management team responsibilities
Assists in the development of facilities construction inspector I’s
Performs constructability reviews
Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business
Other Functions
Substitutes for other Facilities Inspectors in their absence
Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Environment And Physical Demands
Work environment is primarily office. Some travel to the field is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Considerable knowledge of civil, mechanical, and electrical construction
Considerable knowledge of soils and soil testing methods/concrete and concrete testing methods
Thorough understanding of standard details and specifications and the permissible tolerances
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Sound knowledge of construction practices, procedures and materials
Ability to compute volumes and quantities on construction materials
Ability to prepare a variety of written records and reports accurately and neatly using MS Word and Excel and digital photography
Ability to read and interpret contract documents
Ability to deal tactfully, effectively, and equitably with others
Ability to pay strict attention to detail
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent
4+ years of facility construction inspection experience
