Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Emergency Room Registered Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients experiencing urgent and emergent health conditions within a fast-paced emergency department environment. Your expertise will ensure timely assessment, intervention, and management of diverse medical situations, contributing to positive patient outcomes and safety. Duties
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Cerner or Epic.
- Deliver emergency nursing interventions, including airway management, IV infusion, suturing, and aseptic technique to prevent infection.
- Administer medications accurately, including pain management medications and botulinum toxin treatments when applicable.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory testing, radiology (including CT scans), and laboratory specimen collection.
- Manage acute pain and trauma cases in a Level I or Level II trauma center setting, utilizing trauma medicine protocols.
- Triage incoming patients efficiently to prioritize care based on severity using established triage protocols.
- Provide specialized care for diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, patients with developmental disabilities, memory care needs, or those requiring hospice and palliative medicine.
- Document all patient interactions thoroughly in EMR/EHR systems while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support discharge planning by educating patients on post-emergency care instructions and coordinating follow-up services.
- Maintain readiness for critical care procedures such as ventilator management, cardiac catheterization support, or neonatal resuscitation procedures as needed.
Skills
- Proven experience working in emergency medicine settings with familiarity in trauma medicine and ICU procedures.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Cerner and Epic; experience with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is advantageous.
- Skilled in IV insertion, venipuncture (phlebotomy), catheter care (including Foley catheters), and sterile processing techniques.
- Ability to perform advanced life support procedures such as basic life support (BLS), airway management, and critical response protocols.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or complex needs such as behavioral health or memory care patients is preferred.
- Familiarity with hospital standards including NCQA standards for quality assurance and infection control practices.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare teams and educate patients about their conditions.
- Capable of handling high-pressure situations efficiently while maintaining compassionate patient-centered care.
