Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Construction Superintendent to oversee commercial and retail projects from pre-construction through closeout. The Superintendent will be responsible for on-site management, maintaining safety and DOB compliance, coordinating trades and subcontractors, and delivering projects on schedule, within budget, and to the specified quality standards. Ideal candidates will hold relevant DOB/licensure and SST certification and have proven experience running commercial or retail construction sites.
Key Responsibilities

Supervise daily on-site operations and direct subcontractors and craft labor to meet schedule and quality goals.

Ensure compliance with DOB regulations, permit requirements, and site safety programs; maintain documentation for inspections and audits.

Implement and enforce Site Safety Training (SST) and company safety policies; conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.

Coordinate scheduling, sequencing, and logistics for delivery of materials, equipment, and manpower.

Collaborate with project managers, estimators, engineers, architects, and owners to resolve field issues and maintain project momentum.

Perform quality control inspections, document deficiencies, and ensure corrective actions are completed.

Manage site layout, temporary facilities, means and methods, and site security.

Oversee daily reports, progress tracking, RFIs, submittals, change order documentation, and punch lists using construction management software.

Monitor labor productivity and assist in cost control efforts by identifying efficiencies and mitigating delays.

Prepare for and support municipal inspections and closeout activities, ensuring all required documentation and as-built information are completed.
Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of hands-on superintendent experience on commercial and/or retail construction projects.

Valid Department of Buildings (DOB) license or equivalent municipal licensure required.

Site Safety Training (SST) certification or OSHA 30-hour card required; Site Safety Manager (SSM) credential preferred.

Proven knowledge of DOB regulations, permit processes, and municipal inspection procedures.

Strong understanding of construction means and methods, reading plans and specifications, and quality control practices.

Experience managing subcontractors, scheduling, and coordinating logistics on fast-paced sites.

Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid) and Microsoft Office.

Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with a focus on teamwork and client service.

Ability to work on-site full time and travel between project locations as required.
