Position Summary
The Director of Revenue Accounting provides strategic and operational leadership for the Company's revenue accounting function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant accounting for revenue recognition, trade promotions, customer deductions, pricing programs, and other commercial activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This role partners closely with Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Operations, and Executive Leadership to optimize revenue processes, enhance customer profitability, strengthen internal controls, and provide financial insights that support profitable growth. The Director leads the development of revenue accounting policies, drives continuous process improvement and automation, oversees financial governance of the order-to-cash cycle, and develops a high-performing team that serves as a trusted business partner across the organization.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience.
- Experience within Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG), food manufacturing, agriculture, or related manufacturing industries strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of revenue accounting, trade promotions, deductions, rebates, customer profitability, and pricing analysis.
- Experience with ERP and Trade Management systems
- Experience supporting financial audits and internal control environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of revenue accounting, including revenue recognition, trade promotions, promotional accruals, slotting fees, deductions, freight claims and other sales-related programs. Develop and monitor the Sales case and pricing budgets with the input of the Sales and Marketing Department. Provide reporting and analysis to Management.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP (ASC 606) and Company accounting policies related to revenue recognition and customer programs.
- Oversee the monthly and annual close processes for all revenue-related accounts, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Direct the accounting and reconciliation of customer deductions, chargebacks, promotional spending, rebates, and pricing adjustments while minimizing financial risk.
- Partner with Sales and Marketing to review customer contracts, promotional programs, and pricing agreements to ensure proper accounting treatment and financial impact.
- Analyze customer profitability, product margins, trade spending effectiveness, and pricing performance, providing actionable recommendations to executive leadership.
- Develop and maintain forecasting models for trade spending, deductions, rebates, and other revenue-related expenses while supporting the annual budget and long-range planning processes.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards that provide meaningful insights into revenue, trade investment, deductions, customer profitability, and financial performance.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the revenue accounting function, identifying opportunities for process automation, system enhancements, and improved internal controls.
- Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to optimize ERP systems, trade promotion management systems, reporting tools, and revenue accounting processes
- Support internal and external audits by ensuring complete documentation, strong controls, and timely responses to audit requests.
- Evaluate revenue accounting risks and implement policies and procedures that strengthen governance and compliance.
- Recruit, develop, coach, and evaluate revenue accounting team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Executive Leadership by providing meaningful financial analysis and recommendations that improve profitability.
