Summary
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Optometric Assistant/Optician to join our team at Dr. Darlene Okura, OD. Located in a welcoming environment, this role is vital in delivering high-quality eye care and ensuring patient satisfaction while contributing to the growth of our practice.
Responsibilities
- Customer service: Greeting customers, answering questions, and helping customers choose frames and lenses
- Sales: Selling eyewear, accessories, and insurance packages
- Appointments: Scheduling and canceling appointments, and making follow-up appointments
- Technical: Measuring frames, taking visual acuity measurements, and performing pre-screening tests
- Administrative: Answering phone calls and emails, updating patient files, and filing insurance claims
- Inventory: Maintaining inventory levels of glasses, contact lenses, and accessories, and ordering optometric supplies
- Returns: Assisting with returns and preparing credit forms
- Mail: Processing mail deliveries and routing frames and other merchandise
Optical assistants should have good customer service skills, a positive attitude, and an eye for detail. They should also be a team player who is open to sharing ideas and learning from others.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers and doctors
- Outstanding accuracy and attention to detail
- Working knowledge of proper sales techniques
- Basic computer literacy with experience using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook a plus
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in reception, clerical, or customer service fields
- Experience with medical billing processes is a plus but not required.
- Compassionate approach towards patient care, especially for senior clients.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a clinical team.

Pay: $23.31 - $30.00 per hour
