Position Summary:
The Cognitive Junior Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting department by managing daily accounting tasks, including processing accounts payable and payroll, and preparing financial statements and reports. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in accounting principles, comfortable working with numbers, and highly detail-oriented. This visible role requires regular interaction with both internal and external stakeholders, including senior-level staff.
Main Responsibilities:
Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are accurately recorded
Manage accounts receivable and issue invoices
Process accounts payable and perform reconciliations
Assist in preparing balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements in accordance with legal and company accounting guidelines
Review expenses, payroll records, and other assigned financial data
Update financial databases to ensure accurate and timely access to information
Prepare and submit weekly and monthly reports
Support senior accountants with monthly and year-end closings
Participate in other accounting projects as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business
2 years of accounting experience in the Government or Defense industry
Strong organizational and analytical skills
High attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all levels of management
Intermediate Excel skills, including the ability to create complex models
Working knowledge of project accounting and GAAP principles
Experience with Unanet
