We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CNC Set Up Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing, programming, and setting up CNC machines to produce high-precision metal and plastic components. Your expertise in machine setup, tooling, and quality measurement will ensure efficient production runs and adherence to strict specifications. Duties
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD files to determine machining requirements.
- Program CNC machines using G-code, M-code, and CAM software such as SolidWorks or other CAD/CAM tools.
- Set up CNC lathes and milling machines, including installing tooling, fixtures, and workpieces with precision.
- Operate machining tools such as grinders, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and measurement instruments for quality control.
- Conduct manual machining tasks when necessary to support CNC operations or prototype development.
- Perform machine calibration, tool changes, and adjustments to optimize machining accuracy and efficiency.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measurement instruments to ensure compliance with specifications and GD&T standards.
- Troubleshoot machine issues, perform routine maintenance, and document setup procedures for continuous improvement.
- Follow safety protocols including proper use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and forklift operation when handling materials.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives by maintaining organized workstations and reducing waste during setup processes.
Experience
- Proven experience operating CNC machinery such as CNC lathe and CNC milling machines in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages including G-code and M-code; experience with Fanuc controls is a plus.
- Skilled in reading mechanical blueprints and interpreting mechanical blueprints for accurate setup.
- Familiarity with CAD software like SolidWorks or similar for part design review and CAM programming.
- Hands-on experience with machining tools including grinders, calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other precision measurement instruments.
- Mechanical knowledge of metal machining processes such as turning, milling, grinding, and manual machining techniques.
- Understanding of GD&T principles for quality inspection of machined parts.
- Ability to perform machine setup independently while adhering to safety standards in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math skills for calculating measurements, tolerances, and feed rates essential for precise machining operations.
- Experience supporting manufacturing processes involving plastics injection molding or assembly is advantageous but not required.
