New Dawn Charter Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated ENL Teacher to support multilingual learners in a transfer high school setting. The ideal candidate will provide language instruction and academic support to English Language Learners while collaborating closely with content area teachers to ensure students can access rigorous coursework and progress toward graduation.
The ENL Teacher will work with students who may have experienced educational interruption and who benefit from differentiated instruction, relationship-building, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
High School ENL Teacher Responsibilities
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to New York State Next Generation Standards and NYSED ENL requirements.
- Provide direct instruction in English language development, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
- Co-teach and collaborate with content area teachers to support English Language Learners across academic subjects.
- Differentiate instruction and utilize scaffolds to support students at varying English proficiency levels.
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes language acquisition and academic confidence.
- Utilize instructional technology and educational resources to enhance student learning outcomes.
- Assess and monitor student progress using classroom assessments, NYSESLAT data, and other language proficiency measures.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, academic progress, and language development.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student performance and progress.
- Participate in professional development sessions, collaborative planning meetings, and school initiatives.
- Maintain a small group of mentees as part of the school mentoring program, including regular student outreach and family contact.
- Support school culture initiatives and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, counselors, and administration.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, TESOL, ENL, or related field required.
- NYS Certification in ENL/TESOL K-12 required or in progress.
- Prior experience teaching English Language Learners at the high school level preferred.
- Experience working with over-aged and under-credited students or urban populations preferred.
- Bilingual proficiency in another language is highly desirable.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support students with varying academic and social-emotional needs.
- Familiarity with instructional technology, data analysis, and progress monitoring.
