We are seeking a motivated and dependable Groundhand to join our dynamic team in the telecommunications industry. As a vital member of our field operations, you will assist with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic and copper cable systems, ensuring the reliable delivery of communication services. Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, splicing, and testing of fiber optic cables and telecommunications network cables in outdoor environments.
- Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and other construction machinery safely and efficiently.
- Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and construction plans to support cable routing and system setup.
- Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to troubleshoot network issues and verify system performance.
- Support telecommunications outside plant operations by performing cable pulls, splicing, and connecting fiber optic systems according to safety standards.
- Follow safety protocols aligned with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) during all outdoor work activities.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of cable splicing, network configurations, and installation progress using computer networking knowledge including LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network).
Experience
- Prior experience in field service or outdoor construction work involving heavy equipment operation is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with fiber optic splicing, telecommunications testing equipment, and cabling installation is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, low voltage wiring, telephony, Ethernet, and network infrastructure is advantageous.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides.
- Demonstrated outdoor work experience in telecommunications or similar industries involving climbing, trenching, or underground work.
- Familiarity with safety standards such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and best practices for telecommunications outside plant operations.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills supported by experience with fiber optic networks and IT infrastructure components such as switches or routers are a plus.
