Job Description:
This is a job-sharing position that include the medical assistant and patient care representative roles. The medical assistant role will assist our board-certified providers during skin exams, general dermatology office visits, and office procedures including biopsies and injections. The patient care representative role is responsible for maintaining a friendly, warm, and inviting environment at the Front Desk/Patient Check-In area and/or the Patient Check-Out area. It is important that Patient Care Representatives are polite, attentive, and organized. Additionally, they should be able to effectively communicate with patients and assist them in any way possible.
Job Responsibilities for Medical Assistant Role:
- Take patient histories, performing vital signs and record information in EMR system.
- Prepare patients for outpatient procedures and routine skin exams.
- Maintain appropriate pathology log and communicate results to patients.
- Clean and maintain examination and treatment rooms daily.
- Manage equipment and supply inventory.
- Serve as a liaison between physicians and patients.
- Copy and mail requests for medical records ensuring HIPAA compliance.
Job Responsibilities for Patient Care Representative Role:
- Answer multi line phone and either direct the caller to the appropriate party or handle the caller’s needs.
- Greet patients upon arrival, sign them in and obtain insurance information and any other necessary data.
- Provide patients with new patient forms as well as copies of our office policies and legally required documents.
- Scan paperwork into patient’s file.
- Schedule appointments for new and recurring patients.
- Call and remind patients of upcoming appointments.
- Provide patients with support and guidance as needed.
- Collect monies, process end of day reports.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks based on importance.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Order office supplies.
- Verifies insurance coverage and obtains insurance authorizations/referrals/pre-certification as required for all new/established patients.
- Verifies insurance information every 90 days on all established patients and follows up on referrals/authorizations to assure they are current and active.
- Pulls daily a list of add on appointments. Verifies insurance if over 90 days and requests referral/authorization when needed.
- Maintains appropriate knowledge of insurance requirements to include knowledge of which carriers require referrals and/or authorizations and pre-certifications.
- Has sufficient knowledge of correlation between procedures and payable diagnosis.
- Communicates with patients to advise if written referral is required prior to appointment/procedure. Provides information regarding Authorizations Process, schedules and procedures to assure efficient capture of revenue for services rendered.
- Maintains ongoing communication with Practice Administrator and the RCS responsible for other functions of the Revenue Cycle.
Qualifications:
- Candidates must possess previous hands-on experience in a medical assistant position.
- Current CPR/BLS certification (Preferred but not required)
- The ideal candidate should be a self-starter, reliable, detail oriented, possess a strong capability for multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.

- Pay range: $17-21/hr depending on experience
