JOB SUMMARY
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, sterilization, and proper assembly of surgical instruments and medical equipment used throughout the healthcare facility. This role plays a critical part in infection prevention and patient safety by adhering to established protocols and standards for decontamination, inspection, packaging, and sterilization.
Technicians work closely with surgical teams, nursing staff, and other departments to maintain inventory, manage instrument trays, and ensure timely delivery of sterile supplies. Attention to detail, knowledge of sterilization techniques, and commitment to quality control are essential to success in this position.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Instrument/Equipment Preparation:
- Decontaminates, sterilizes and prepares surgical instruments
- Decontaminates clinical equipment
- Distributes surgical instruments and clinical equipment
- Assures quality instrument set preparation
- Monitors and re-stocks supplies and equipment
Communication:
- Accurately and effectively communicates with Central Sterile Processing (CSP) and Surgical Staff
Record-Keeping:
- Monitors and records biological testing of sterilization processes
Education:
- Attends required in-services, annual review and educational programs
Regulation:
- Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines
- Complies with applicable Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues
Adheres to all accrediting agencies guidelines (ex. DNV, OSHA, etc.)
