American Traveler is seeking a Surgical Technologist with a strong Neuro background for a hospital OR position at a Level III Trauma Center in Milwaukee, WI.

Hospital-based OR setting at a 636-bed Level III Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility in Milwaukee, WI
-
Primary unit is the Surgery Room, with cross-training to the General Main OR specialty and Urology center (no floating to other hospitals or sites)
-
Neuro/ENT case mix includes spine surgeries (laminectomies, ALIFs, fusions, discectomies), cranial surgeries (tumors, VP shunts, subdural, EVDs), and ENT procedures (neck dissections with flaps, sinus surgery, tympanoplasty)
-
Orthopedic cases include fractures, anterior hips, total joints, ortho spine, and hand/podiatry using the Hanna Table
-
General case mix includes breast/plastics, vascular, laparoscopic, general oncology, GU, and GYN; robotic (Da Vinci Xi) cases are not routinely trained for agency staff

Navigation systems used include Medtronic (cranial and spine), Medtronic Stealth (ENT), Stryker, and Synaptive Navigation (cranial)

Patient ratio is 1:1

8-hour day shift with variable start times between 5:30am–7:00am

On-call requirement with a 30-minute response time; call schedule runs approximately 8 weeks and is subject to change based on staffing needs

Weekend call of 1–2 weekends per 8-week schedule (Saturday and Sunday, 24 hrs) may be required
-
EMR: Epic; also uses Alaris and Pyxis
-
Minimum of 2 years of Neuro surgical technologist experience required, including cranial and spine cases
-
Proficiency in spine surgeries (laminectomies, ALIFs, fusions, discectomies) and cranial surgeries (tumors, VP shunts, subdural, EVDs) required

BLS certification required

Active license required if applicable

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Candidate's middle name or initial, DOB, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Scrubs are provided by the facility; scrub caps are permitted but must be covered by a surgical bouffant

Orientation is approximately 1–1.5 weeks, subject to change based on unit needs

Support structure includes charge nurses, leads, and supervisors (AM, PM, and weekend) as well as a unit manager

First-time travelers are not recommended for this position; further evaluation by the hiring supervisor would be required

Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible

Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions

Holiday coverage: during holiday weeks, candidates may work four 10-hour shifts or request the holiday off unpaid
