Airport Rescue Fire Fighter
Reports to: Chief of Public Safety Department
Classification: Part Time Exempt
Job Description
Job Purpose:
Represents the Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority (S/RCAA) in a highly professional manner.
Under supervision, performs highly responsible duties, responds to fire emergencies, aircraft alert, and other requests for assistance to protect life and property in accordance with policies and procedures as trained or assigned. Collects data for reporting purposes.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs general Public Safety station house duties including apparatus and vehicle cleaning and minor maintenance work
Participates in inspection of airport facilities to determine compliance with fire and safety codes and Airport certifications.
Supplemental Job Functions:
Drives fire truck or other vehicles as assigned.
Operates pumps and apparatus, uses ladders, hoses and other fire suppression equipment.
Uses power and hand tools as required in support of job function.
Participates in drills and training classes as available.
Perform FAA Part 139 tasks (eg. airport inspections, training, etc.)
Performs any other tasks as directed by supervisor.
Job Standards :
Must be able to cover a 24 hr shift.
Education and Knowledge:
Knowledge of firefighting operations, equipment and practices.
Become familiar with airport operations environment. Aviation background beneficial but not required.
Licensures and Certificates Required:
Must possess a valid TN State Driver’s License. "F" endorsement must be achieved within one year of employment.
Certified in providing Basic First Aid or higher.
Minimum of Firefighter-One certification through TN Commission on Firefighting or documented State Fire Academy Training equivalent to Firefighter One or must be able to obtain certification with 24 months of employment.
Airport Firefighter certification or documented aviation related fire training preferred.
Chosen applicants will have 12 months to obtain certification for Airport Firefighter.
Ability to achieve Airport Security Clearance.
Work Experience:
Minimum of two years’ work experience is preferred.
Mental Skills:
Must demonstrate good judgement, emotional and mental stability in routine and emergency circumstances. Must have ability to implement procedures and techniques.
Manual Skills:
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities; ability to operate airport motor vehicles.
Physical Effort:
Sitting or standing for long periods of time.
Stair climbing required.
Extensive driving of motor vehicle required.
Considerable walking over paved, unpaved areas, concrete and rough ground.
Heavy lifting could be required during emergencies.
Working Conditions:
Exposure to inclement weather.
Possible exposure to fire, smoke, body fluids, human casualties during emergencies.
Safety of Others:
High level of responsibility in the safety and security of other employees, tenants and airport users.
Public Relations:
Ability to establish and maintain effective internal working relationships; as well as external contacts which requires tact to maintain good business relationships.
Confidentiality with information, public relations efforts with S/RCAA goals and vision.
Supervisory Skills:
Minimal requirement.
