We are seeking an experienced Directional Boring & Hydro-Vac Machine Foreman to oversee underground utility construction projects and lead field crews in the safe and efficient operation of directional drilling and hydro-vac equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, hands-on equipment experience, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
Position Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead directional boring and hydro-vac crews on daily operations
- Coordinate jobsite activities, crew assignments, and equipment needs
- Operate and oversee the use of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment and hydro-vac trucks
- Review project plans, utility drawings, and work scopes
- Ensure proper utility locating, drilling procedures, and excavation practices are followed
- Monitor production schedules and maintain project timelines
- Train, mentor, and provide direction to crew members
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce OSHA and company safety requirements
- Perform jobsite inspections and maintain accurate project documentation
- Communicate effectively with project managers, customers, inspectors, and team members
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a directional boring operator, hydro-vac operator, or underground utility foreman
- Strong knowledge of HDD drilling operations, utility installation, and excavation practices
- Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and utility maps
- Experience leading construction crews and managing daily field operations
- Strong mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting skills
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and safe work practices
- Class A CDL + Tanker Endorsement required with good driving record
- Ability to work outdoors and travel to various job locations as needed
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with fiber, telecommunications, electrical, gas, water, or other underground utilities
- Experience operating equipment such as Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or similar HDD systems
- Experience with hydro-excavation and daylighting underground utilities
