Nursing Assistant Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Nursing Assistant to join our hospice team. The ideal candidate will provide essential support to patients in various settings, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and home care environments. This role requires a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care while ensuring the comfort and safety of individuals under your supervision.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
- Support patients with mobility needs using assistive devices like Hoyer lifts.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients by adhering to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Document patient care activities accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Engage with patients to provide emotional support and companionship, particularly for those with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
- Assist in the training of new staff members or nursing students when required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a nursing assistant training program is preferred.
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) is required.
- Experience in critical care, long-term care, assisted living, or home health settings is advantageous.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks is beneficial.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS) principles.
- Experience working with diverse populations including individuals with developmental disabilities or those requiring hospice care.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
