The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and managing all materials, supplies, and services required to support manufacturing operations. This role ensures the timely availability of quality materials at competitive costs while maintaining strong supplier relationships and supporting production schedules. The Purchasing Agent serves as a key link between suppliers, production, inventory control, and management.
The Purchasing Agent will report to the President.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage all purchasing activities for raw materials, components, tooling, supplies, and subcontracted services
- Source and evaluate suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery, and service performance
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with vendors
- Issue and manage purchase orders to support production requirements
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment activities
- Ensure materials are delivered on time to meet production schedules and customer commitments
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and resolve delivery, quality, or service issues
- Track supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary
- Collaborate with production, scheduling, engineering, and quality teams to support operational needs
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the supply chain
- Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier records within ERP/MRP systems
- Monitor market trends, material availability, and supply chain risks
Qualifications
- 3+ years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and inventory management principles
- Ability to analyze data and make informed purchasing decisions
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Problem-solving skills and proactive decision-making capabilities
Pay: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
