Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Analyst to join a growing payroll team supporting a large, multi-state workforce environment. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity with long-term potential for the right candidate. The ideal candidate will have strong payroll tax compliance experience, knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, and experience supporting complex payroll tax operations.
What You'll Do
- Analyze new and revised payroll tax regulations and assess their impact on payroll operations.
- Research and resolve payroll tax issues, discrepancies, notices, and audits from federal, state, and local agencies.
- Maintain payroll tax tables and local tax codes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely payroll tax filings.
- Support year-end payroll tax activities, including W-2 processing, corrections, tax form updates, and employee tax notifications.
- Maintain and forecast state unemployment insurance (SUI) rates.
- Partner with accounting and finance teams to resolve payroll tax accrual, payment, and reconciliation issues.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and support month-end processes.
- Assist with payroll tax system testing, upgrades, and implementation projects.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for payroll tax inquiries and compliance matters.
- Develop and maintain payroll tax procedures and training documentation.
- Cross-train and provide backup support for payroll processing functions.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of payroll tax experience.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Experience with multi-state payroll tax compliance.
- Experience supporting payroll tax filings, audits, notices, reconciliations, and year-end reporting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
