Description:
Duties: Receive general supervision from the Security Guard Supervisor when assigned to City Hall. Exercise no supervision. Safeguard municipal buildings, equipment, property and personnel. Circulating throughout municipal building and grounds and check for fire, prowlers, unsecured locks and lighting; note irregularities and respond appropriately. Respond to disturbances and distractions in City Council meetings, Municipal Garage, at the Impound Lot or other municipal buildings; remove unauthorized or distracting personnel from the premises. May detain persons causing disturbances; contact and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in matters related to the detention of offenders and investigation of offenses. Escort personnel to vehicles after evening meetings upon request. Prepare various reports pertaining to disturbances or distractions. Respond to and direct inquires from the public, provide directions and general information as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent and one year of responsible security experience. Knowledge of self-defense tactics; identify potential hazards and take preventive action; maintain physical conditions; pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations; use and properly care for firearms, meet requirements to use firearms established by the Jackson Police Department.
PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT, APPLICANT RECOMMENDED FOR EMPLOYEMENT SHALL BE REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PASS A URINALYSIS AND/OR BLOOD TEST TO SCREEN FOR ALCOHOL AND/OR DRUG ABUSE.
