TITLE: Certified Athletic Trainer
(This is a 12 month appointment with the opportunity of renewal after the first year.)
DEPARTMENT: Sports Medicine
WPU is a NAIA institution that supports 28 varsity sports.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field from a CAATE accredited athletic training education program.
- Iowa Licensure if certified or upon completion of Certification.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to injury prevention, evaluation,
treatment, and rehabilitation, practice coverage, travel, and other duties as
assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine. William Penn University will
also pay for Iowa licensure, NATA dues, NATA convention, State Convention, and an apparel stipend.
This position will report directly to the Director of Sports Medicine and is expected to adhere to NAIA and Heart of America Athletic Conference regulations as well as the policies and procedures set forth by the WPU Sports Medicine Department. Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion.
Electronic documentation of all patient encounters. Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patient. Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations. Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes. Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures. Responsible for administrative and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Certified Athletic Trainers are responsible for the healthcare of sports as designated by Director of Sports Medicine. If an Athletic Trainer is BOC certified they must obtain their state of Iowa license (reimbursed by WPU). All Athletic Trainers will thoroughly read the WPU Sports Medicine Policy and Procedures and agree to abide by its contents.

We are searching for individuals who have the ability to work in an environment of shifting priorities, in a busy environment with a high level of interaction with students, coaches, and the public. Lastly, we are looking for individuals who are able to work independently in addition to being a collaborative team member completing all assigned tasks in a timely manner.

- o Staff Hiring: process, time-frames, final decision
- o Team Assignments: initial, modification, and/or complete changes
- o Team travel: personnel
SALARY Salary Commensurate with experience
