Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough eye examinations utilizing diagnostic tools such as tonometry and medical equipment operation to assess visual acuity, ocular health, and physiological function.
- Diagnose and treat various eye conditions related to ophthalmology, including refractive errors, glaucoma, and pediatrics-specific issues.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems to accurately document patient histories, examination findings, treatment plans, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform medical treatments such as administering medications, managing ocular diseases, and providing pre- and post-operative care for surgical patients.
- Educate patients on eye health, proper use of corrective lenses, and preventive care strategies while delivering exceptional customer service and fostering trust.
- Operate medical equipment like tonometers for intraocular pressure measurement and ensure aseptic techniques are followed during procedures.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams by interpreting medical terminology, contributing to accurate medical coding, and supporting overall patient care initiatives.
Qualifications
- Valid optometry license with relevant certifications in ophthalmology or related fields.
- Proven experience in optical practice settings with familiarity in optical experience and patient care.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy of the eye, and healthcare diagnosis procedures.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems along with understanding of medical coding standards.
- Ability to perform essential clinical procedures such as tonometry, vital signs assessment, and use of medical equipment operation skills.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service and patient education.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of medical records and sensitive information.
- Experience working with pediatric patients (pediatrics) is a plus.
