American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a community hospital in North Carolina, requiring a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and the ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias.

Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a community hospital setting

Patient population includes diagnoses such as diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, failure to thrive, and various surgical recovery cases

Patient ratio of 1:6

Telemetry monitoring performed both remotely and on the unit

Night shift: 18:45–07:15 (3x12-hour shifts); 36 or 48 hours per week available
-
Every other weekend required
-
Self-scheduling
-
Floating required, including potential float to the main campus approximately 32 minutes away
-
No on-call requirement
-
Medication dispensing via Pyxis

Epic charting experience preferred
-
Active NC or Compact RN license required (pending licensure is acceptable at time of consideration)
-
BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
-
Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
-
Experience with telemetry monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
-
Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, and blood product administration
-
Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), HFNC, non-invasive airway management, and oxygen administration
-
Experience with wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions/PPE, feeding tube care, colostomy/ileostomy management, and bowel obstruction care
-
Experience with heparin, insulin, and PCA administration
-
Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care experience required

Must pass an EKG test prior to start
-
Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Community hospital experience preferred
-
Previous charge nurse experience preferred

24-hour unit orientation provided, with weekly orientation scheduling
-
Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles); must be completed annually
-
Navy blue or white scrubs required
-
Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays; no RTO during the first week of assignment
-
Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved per contract, excluding holidays; all RTO must be pre-approved and cannot be requested after signing
-
No block schedules permitted unless a weekend block (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
-
Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
-
Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying; disclosure of prior employment and facility rehire approval required
