JOB TITLE: FLEET TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE
DEPARTMENT: TRANSPORTATION & DEVELOPMENT/FLEET MAINTENANCE
MUST MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED with basic knowledge of auto mechanics and/or equipment repair work. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Hours are Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
NATURE OF WORK: The purpose of this classification is to perform routine tasks and assist with basic entry-level preventive maintenance and routine repair work on County vehicles and equipment. Position works under the general guidance of senior technicians and reports to the Fleet Technician Superintendent/Fleet Manager.
SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB INCLUDE: Assists in the performance of maintenance duties and related servicing of a variety of vehicles and motorized equipment; changes oil; replaces or charges batteries; replaces spark plugs; replaces or cleans air filters; changes and rotates tires; replace brakes; adjusts and makes minor repairs to engines and related units; prepares vehicle maintenance reports, records and logs of work performed, parts used and replaced and hours; cleans and maintains shop and work area; cleans and moves equipment an d vehicles; makes deliveries and picks up parts and supplies as needed; assists with parts inventory. Performs other related duties as required.
Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: Selection will be made from a register of eligible applicants that may be established by education, work experience, test score, personal interview, credit check, criminal history, driving history (copy of driver’s license may be required), drug screen, and/or physical examination.
