Proteus Inc. provides educational and economic opportunities to agricultural workers under the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP) grant. We are currently seeking a Career Coach based out of Terra Haute Indiana. The Career Coach role recruits qualifying individuals for the job-training program and assists program participants in achieving their educational and career goals along their career pathway toward self-sufficiency.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists in the recruitment of potential clients through telephone and personal contacts, presentations, and other outreach activities.
2. Conducts personal interviews to establish eligibility and needs.
3. Provides assessment by way of CareerScope Online and other assessment tools, to establish immediate objectives and long-term goals.
4. Formulates individual employment development plan for each program participant using information gathered through formal assessments and in-depth interviews.
5. Enters participants in a tailor‑made program to elevate skill levels and help achieve self‑sufficiency through pre‑employment training, remedial skills training, Adult Basic Education, GED and technical training.
6. Coordinates placement and on the job training opportunities.
7. Determines and provides supportive services based on individual needs and area office budget.
8. Maintains effective case management by submitting timely contracts, progress notes, updates, job orders and all other necessary paperwork.
9. Conducts regular one‑on‑one counseling sessions with participants to review goals, address problems and ensure progress is being made.
10. Conducts one-on-one career assistance providing participants with job seeking skills, personal awareness, motivation and self-esteem, goal setting, resume development, interview techniques and other activities as determined needed.
11. Conducts post assessment utilizing appropriate assessment equipment.
12. Initiates and maintains linkages with area education facilities, human service agencies, medical facilities, and employers.
13. Represents Proteus in a cordial, professional and businesslike manner and serves as Proteus' representative to area associations, organizations, and committees. This may include providing Proteus presentations.
14. Establishes partnerships with employers to identify present and future requirements, thus preparing participants for integration into the labor market.
15. Performs post‑placement follow‑up in accordance with corporate policy.
16. Other duties as assigned.
Qualified Candidates Should Have:
- Associate's degree in related field with three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and minimum car insurance as required by state law
- Ability to travel for job purposes across assigned territory or across the state as needed
- Strong recruiting skills along with the ability to coach and counsel others, problem solve, and demonstrate a proven ability to work with people in a professional manner
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred, but not required
- Experience working with farmworker or underserved populations preferred
- Value honesty and integrity along with willingness to learn
