The Estherville Public Library is seeking a friendly, reliable, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-Time Library Assistant. This is an entry-level role—no prior library experience is required. We provide training and support to help you succeed.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, is comfortable with basic technology, and is eager to learn new skills in a welcoming community environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist library visitors in a friendly and professional manner
- Check materials in and out using the library’s circulation system (training provided)
- Shelve books and maintain organized stacks
- Help patrons locate books, materials, and resources
- Assist patrons with public computers, including basic troubleshooting, internet access, printing, and logging in (training provided)
- Assist patrons with mobile devices and apps, such as downloading eBooks, connecting to Wi-Fi, and basic device troubleshooting (training provided)
- Answer basic questions in person and by phone
- Assist with library programs and events as needed
What We’re Looking For (No Experience Required)
- Strong customer service or people skills
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions
- Basic computer skills (email, searching the internet, data entry)
- Comfort using smartphones, tablets, or apps (or willingness to learn)
- Ability to be dependable and punctual
- Friendly, patient, and helpful attitude
- Ability to lift and carry books (up to 20–25 lbs occasionally)
Preferred (But Not Required)
- Experience providing customer service
- Interest in books, reading, or community services
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Training Provided
We will train you on:
- Library circulation systems
- Shelving and organization standards
- Customer service procedures
- Public computer systems and patron assistance
- Mobile devices, apps, and e-resources support
- Library policies and safety procedures

Pay: $18.50 per hour
