Job Summary
We are seeking a senior Facade Consultant / Building Envelope Engineer to join our small, agile firm. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority on facade systems — leading design review, performance analysis, forensic investigations, and capital project execution. The ideal candidate brings expert-level command of how facades perform in the field, an active PE license, and the professional credibility to serve as an expert witness. You'll work directly with owners, developers, architects, and contractors, with the autonomy and variety that come with a lean team rather than a large-firm structure.
Duties
- Lead expert-level evaluation, design review, and performance analysis of facade and building envelope systems, including curtain wall, rainscreen, masonry, glazing, and roofing-to-wall interfaces.
- Serve as an expert witness on facade-related litigation, construction defect claims, and forensic investigations — including report preparation, deposition, and trial testimony.
- Manage facade capital projects for owners and developers, including scoping, budgeting, consultant coordination, contractor oversight, and project close-out.
- Develop and maintain a book of business, cultivating client relationships with owners, developers, architects, GCs, and legal counsel.
- Prepare facade-related cost estimates, remediation budgets, and life-cycle cost analyses to support owner decision-making.
- Conduct site inspections, condition assessments, water-testing oversight, and constructability reviews across new construction and existing-building portfolios.
- Author technical reports, specifications, and peer-review memos for clients, design teams, and regulatory bodies.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams — architects, structural and MEP engineers, contractors, and trade subcontractors — to resolve facade performance issues.
- Stamp and seal drawings, reports, and certifications as the responsible PE where required.
Skills
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing; multi-state licensure a plus.
- Expert-level understanding of facade systems and how they perform — thermal, structural, air/water, acoustic, and long-term durability.
- Demonstrated experience as an expert witness or testifying consultant on facade or building envelope matters.
- Established book of business or portable client relationships.
- Strong working knowledge of facade cost estimating, remediation pricing, and capital project budgeting.
- Experience in capital project management on the owner's or consultant's side — RFPs, contractor selection, schedule and budget control.
- Practical command of governing codes and standards (IBC, ASTM, AAMA, NFRC) and current testing protocols.
- Comfort working in a small-firm environment: self-directed, broad scope, direct client contact, and a hand in shaping the practice.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication, with the ability to translate complex facade issues for non-technical owners, attorneys, and juries.
Join a small firm where your expertise directly shapes the practice. You'll have the autonomy to own the facade discipline end-to-end — from forensic and expert-witness work to capital project delivery — while building lasting client relationships and helping grow the business.
