Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various vehicles to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of passengers, including children, seniors, or individuals with special needs. Responsibilities
- Safely operate buses, transit vehicles, or specialized transport vans in accordance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, boarding, and disembarking procedures to ensure their safety and comfort.
- Follow all emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and first aid protocols when necessary.
- Maintain communication with dispatchers and other team members to respond quickly to traffic changes or route adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, child safety protocols, and behavior management standards when transporting students or children.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle mechanical condition and report any issues promptly.
- Provide excellent customer service by engaging positively with passengers and addressing their needs courteously.
Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport and wheelchair assistance.
- Proven experience driving buses, transit vehicles, or school buses; familiarity with paratransit operations is a plus.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and state/local commercial driving laws.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely.
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are desirable for serving diverse communities.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for vehicle inspection and troubleshooting minor issues.
- Experience working with children or seniors; understanding of childcare or senior care is advantageous.
- Demonstrated defensive driving skills and quick response to traffic changes for passenger safety.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures including emergency stop procedures and accident protocols.
- Ability to manage student discipline when necessary while maintaining a positive environment onboard.
