The Madison School District is seeking an experienced, hands-on Building & Grounds Supervisor to oversee the operation, maintenance, safety, and appearance of all district buildings and grounds.
This is a working supervisory position that combines leadership with hands-on maintenance responsibilities. The successful candidate will supervise custodial staff while actively helping maintain a clean, safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and the community.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate custodial staff.
- Oversee preventative maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, fire alarm, security, and other building systems.
- Perform routine building repairs including carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall, flooring, and general maintenance.
- Assist with custodial duties, event setup, floor care, and deep cleaning as needed.
- Coordinate contractors, vendors, and capital improvement projects.
- Maintain school grounds, playgrounds, parking areas, sidewalks, and landscaping.
- Assist with snow and ice removal operations.
- Respond to emergency facility situations including power outages, alarm activations, water leaks, equipment failures, and weather-related events.
- Participate in district safety and facilities committees.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
- Experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or the building trades.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and school facility operations preferred.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time, year-round exempt position. While the typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, flexibility is required. Evening, weekend, holiday, and emergency response work is expected as necessary to support school operations and community events.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary $60,000 to $65,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
