Position Summary
The General Manager / Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company while managing multiple commercial construction projects from planning through completion. This leadership role combines operational management, project execution, financial oversight, staff leadership, and business development to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to company quality standards.
This position plays a key role in supporting company growth, improving operational efficiency, and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations Management
● Oversee daily company operations and ensure efficient workflow across departments.
● Develop, implement, and improve operational systems and procedures.
● Monitor company performance and recommend process improvements.
● Support company growth initiatives and strategic planning.
● Maintain company standards, policies, and a positive workplace culture.
Project Management
● Manage multiple commercial construction projects simultaneously.
● Plan, coordinate, and oversee projects from preconstruction through closeout.
● Develop and monitor project schedules, budgets, and timelines.
● Track project costs and ensure projects remain within budget.
● Coordinate procurement of materials and equipment.
● Review project progress and resolve issues affecting schedule or quality.
● Conduct regular job site visits to monitor project performance.
Estimating & Preconstruction
● Prepare and review:
○ Cost estimates
○ Budgets
○ Takeoffs
○ Bid packages
○ Submittals
○ Project proposals
● Assist in project planning and preconstruction activities.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
● Assist with accounting functions, including AIA payment applications.
● Review project financial performance and cost reports.
● Monitor budgets, change orders, and project billing.
● Ensure accurate project documentation is maintained.
Leadership & Staff Management
● Supervise office staff, field personnel, and subcontractors.
● Provide leadership, coaching, and performance guidance.
● Coordinate work assignments and staffing needs.
● Foster accountability, teamwork, and professional development.
Client & Vendor Relations
● Maintain strong communication with clients, architects, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors.
● Address project concerns professionally and promptly.
● Build long-term relationships that support future business opportunities.
Safety & Compliance
● Conduct site visits to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
● Promote a safe working environment for employees and subcontractors.
● Ensure projects comply with applicable building codes, permits, and contractual requirements.
Business Development
● Support company sales and business development efforts.
● Assist in identifying new project opportunities.
● Participate in client meetings and networking activities.
● Contribute ideas for company growth and operational improvements.
Required Qualifications
Education
● Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Management, or related field
preferred.
● Equivalent construction management experience may be considered.
Experience
● Several years of commercial construction management experience.
● Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
● Strong knowledge of estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and project execution.
● Experience leading office and field personnel.
