I. Job Description
A dedicated after school musical theatre teacher is responsible for upholding the Carden mission. A Carden School provides the opportunity for the natural unfolding of the mind, personality, and capacities of the child. This energetic role offers an exciting opportunity to lead dynamic musical theatre classes for children and early learners, fostering their love for the arts while developing essential skills. As a key contributor to our team, you will craft engaging lesson plans, manage lively classroom environments, and nurture each child's unique talents in a supportive setting. This position is perfect for educators who thrive on making a positive impact through the performing arts and enjoy working with children.
The musical theatre teacher will have the primary responsibility for planning and teaching music in alignment with The Carden Method®. Additionally, the teacher will be responsible for evaluating and reporting for all students in his or her classes. He or she will be responsible for establishing a positive, encouraging, appropriate relationship with students in which they are both held to high standards and supported in their attempts to meet them. He or she will work with other teachers and staff to co-plan, co-deliver, and individualize instruction for all students. The musical theatre teacher is a dedicated, goal-oriented and enthusiastic professional with excellent subject knowledge and understanding of The Carden Method®.
II. Areas of Responsibility
· Responsible for implementing instructional activities to engage students in meaningful learning experiences for choir and musical theatre
· Responsible for providing a positive, safe, and clean classroom environment
· Responsible for facilitating activities and projects that incorporate communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking
· Responsible for identifying, selecting, and modifying instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs
· Responsible for communicating effectively, orally and in writing, with students, parents, and others
· Responsible for collaborating with peers to enhance the instructional environment
· Responsible for participating in training and professional development
· Responsible for meeting professional obligations through efficient work habits as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules etc.
· Responsible for always acting in a professional and ethical manner and complying with school policies, procedures, and expectations
· Responsible for performing other duties and responsibilities assigned by your supervisor
· Responsible for being a team member of Carden Academy of Whittier
· Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean classroom
· Responsible for keeping their cell phones ready in case of an emergency, or text communication from the office
· Responsible for standing, greeting, and shaking hands with guests and making sure they are comfortable
· Responsible for maintaining communication with the Director/ Assistant Director for absences and needs
· Responsible for keeping your privacy on social media.
· Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of students and business-related information
· Responsible for planning and preparing for Christmas and Spring musical performances
III. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Proven experience in teaching or tutoring children in performing arts, especially musical theatre or theater-related subjects
· Experience working with children across various age groups, including preschool or early childhood education settings
· High School diploma: additional qualifications will be a plus
· Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility, and willingness to perform assigned tasks
· Must have strong communication and people skills
· Good organizational and multitasking abilities
· Knowledge and ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations
· Must be able to pass background check and drug screening
· An ability and enthusiasm for promoting the school and its mission to the community
