About the Role
This company is an automotive supplier managing metal commodity purchasing across multiple manufacturing plants in the US and Mexico. The Commodity Buyer manages purchasing activities for metal commodities including steel, aluminum, stamping, and forging, focusing on supplier management, negotiations, and ensuring continuity of supply. This role reports to the Regional Purchasing Director and works within corporate purchasing strategies set by the Regional Director and corporate headquarters.

Compensation
$70,000 to $80,000 annually, depending on experience.
What You'll Do
The Commodity Buyer executes purchasing activities for metal commodities such as steel, aluminum, stamping, and forging, and manages supplier relationships through daily communication and issue resolution. This role negotiates prices, payment terms, and delivery conditions within corporate guidelines, and ensures timely supply to support production needs across assigned plants. The Commodity Buyer monitors supplier performance on quality, cost, and delivery, escalating issues when necessary, and supports cost reduction initiatives and process improvement actions. This person applies company purchasing processes and compliance rules, and collaborates with Quality, Logistics, Finance, and Projects teams to ensure smooth operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field
- 5 or more years of purchasing or procurement experience in the automotive industry
- Strong knowledge of metal commodities (steel, aluminum, stamping, forging) and supply base management
- Contract negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
- Proficiency in SAP and MS Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing purchasing across multiple international plant locations
- Familiarity with QCDP (Quality, Cost, Delivery, Performance) frameworks
